Friends of the Library
Jan Kelly, President
The
Friends of the Library is a private organization that raises funds for the
Library by conducting book sales and mailings to provide money for the librarian's
wish list. Because the Library's most enthusiastic support comes from individuals,
there is a need for people who care about libraries to act as an organized
support group. Items such as the children's programs, photocopier, large print
books and enhanced services have benefited from this fund.
As
a Friend of the Library, you can be part of a volunteer group that helps to
support one of your community's most valuable resources. The Friends do for
the Library what individual friends do for one another: they come forth with
ideas, time, advice, effort, encouragement, and financial support. Joining
the Friends gives you an opportunity to repay the enlightenment, fulfillment,
and entertainment given freely to you over the years.
Donations
The Provincetown Public Library and the Friends of the Library
are pleased to accept donations of usable items such as nonfiction, popular
fiction, hardbacks, paperbacks, cassettes and CDs. Donations are either given
to the Friends of the Library Book Sales or are added to the Library collection
at the discretion of the staff volunteers. Due to the lack of storage space,
however, the following items cannot be accepted:
- Incomplete
sets of books
- Magazines
- Out-of-date
materials
- Reader's
Digest condensed books
- Technical,
scientific, and reference materials
- Textbooks
- Encyclopedias
older than ten (10) years
The Library accepts
materials in good condition; it does not accept musty, mildewed, damp, damaged,
torn, or bug-infested materials. While the staff is not able to affix a value
to donated materials for tax purposes, the Library Director will be happy to
send an acknowledgment describing the donation. Please bring any materials to
be donated to the Library Circulation Desk and the staff will issue a receipt
at that time.
